Remembering Mike Vokes, our club's longest-standing member
17 Mar 2025
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Mike Vokes, a longstanding and oldest member of the club, at the age of 85. Mike was a dedicated Masters swimmer who proudly represented Winchester City Penguins Swimming Club in competitions and gave his time generously as a volunteer. Even during his illness, he continued to support the club, most recently alongside his wife, Mo, at the Primary Schools Gala in June.
Mike’s unwavering commitment and passion, especially for ensuring that ‘Penguins’ remained part of our club’s identity, will always be remembered. To honour his many years as a swimmer, competitor, and volunteer, we have introduced a new Club Championship trophy engraved in his name. Age Performance swimmer, Olivia, can be seen in the photo below, being presented a box of trophies by Head Coach, Ben, including the trophy in Mike's memory for 1500 metres.
Mike’s positive spirit and dedication have left a lasting impact on our club, and he will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with Mo and his family.
