Swimming Lessons Manager
About the Role
Winchester City Swimming Club (WCSC) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Swimming Lessons Manager to lead and develop our thriving learn-to-swim programme.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the club’s lessons programme and the supervision and development of a team of dedicated swim teachers.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the continued growth and success of the programme while maintaining high standards of teaching and swimmer development.
The role includes a strong poolside presence, supporting teachers, mentoring staff and helping swimmers progress through the programme.

Winchester City Swimming Club is a well-established, community-focused club with a proud history of excellence in both competitive and developmental swimming.
We are committed to providing a positive, inclusive and high-quality environment where swimmers of all ages and abilities can develop confidence and skills in the water.
WCSC is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and holds Swim England SwimMark accreditation. The club has approximately 1,000 members aged between 3 and 70, delivering high-quality swimming lessons and competitive training while serving the wider local community.
Our learn-to-swim programme is fundamental to the club’s pathway, helping swimmers develop their skills and progress into our competitive squad structure.
Key Responsibilities
The Swimming Lessons Manager will be responsible for:
- Leading the day-to-day operational management of the club’s swim lessons programme
- Supervising, supporting and developing a team of swim teachers
- Spending approximately 18 hours per week poolside, including teaching, mentoring and supervising staff
- Developing and managing the structure and progression of the lessons programme
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with external pool providers
- Supporting and mentoring staff through regular one-to-one meetings and team meetings
- Overseeing a comprehensive teacher observation, training and induction programme
- Leading the marketing and promotion of the lessons programme to support growth and community engagement
- Managing programme administration using strong IT and organisational systems
- Ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed in line with Swim England Wavepower safeguarding policies and safer recruitment guidance
- Overseeing school swimming lessons and community outreach projects
- Working closely with the WCSC coaching team to identify and encourage swimmers to progress into the club’s competitive squads
- Managing lesson registers and coordinating staff rotas to ensure all sessions are appropriately staffed
- Holds a Level 2 Swimming Teaching Qualification (STA or Swim England / ASA or equivalent)
- Has experience teaching swimming across a range of ages and abilities
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, engaging positively with swimmers, parents and staff
- Is proactive, organised and able to manage multiple responsibilities
- Has strong administrative, IT and organisational skills
- Understands marketing and promotion within a sports or community environment
- Enjoys working in a hands-on, poolside environment
- Has experience mentoring, supporting or managing staff
- Experience or knowledge of competitive swimming pathways would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Experience managing or coordinating a learn-to-swim programme
- Experience using lesson management or booking software systems
- Experience working within a Swim England affiliated club
- Knowledge of swimmer development pathways

Safeguarding Winchester City Swimming Club
Safeguarding Winchester City Swimming Club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare f children and vulnerable adults. The successful candidate will be required to undertake enhanced DBS clearance and comply with Swim England Wavepower safeguarding policies.

Contract type: Permanent full-time (part-time would also be considered)

Salary: Hourly
