WCSC Club Champs 2025: Community, Competition, and 23 New Club Records

We recently held our 2025 WCSC Club Championships across a few weekends at Winchester Sport & Leisure Park. The stands were full of families, and down on poolside teammates and volunteers were cheering every heat. From first-time racers to seasoned performers, the spirit of WCSC was on show from warm-up to the final whistle.

This year’s Champs brought the full programme: sprints and middle-distance across all four strokes, individual medley, and the distance block, including 800m and 1500m. The atmosphere on poolside was focused and friendly, with older swimmers guiding younger teammates, and squads mixing to support one another. Thank you to our Open Meets team, officials, timekeepers, team managers, marshals, coaches, and all the other volunteers for helping the meet run as smooth as it could.

152 Swimmers took part

A fantastic 152 individual swimmers raced at least one event. That number reflects the health of our pathway and the enthusiasm across the club, from our younger age groups through to our senior swimmers, and gives a chance for all of our squad swimmers to participate and compete in a friendly, welcoming environment.

23 Club Records broken

After a careful review of the results, we are proud to confirm 23 Club records were set during the meet. Congratulations to the following swimmers:

  • Megan Thorpe: Female 16 yr 800m Free

  • Ben Hatfield: Male 19 yr 50m Back

  • Olivia Grant: Female 12 yr 1500m Free

  • Amelie Bissett: Female 20 yr 1500m Free

Please give these swimmers a big round of applause the next time you see them on poolside. Records only fall when training is consistent, skills are sharp, and teammates push each other to be better.

What matters just as much

Club Champs is about more than times. It is where new swimmers learn how a race day works, where personal bests are celebrated, and where volunteers make the difference between a good meet and a great one. Over the sessions, we had 160 swims done in a competitive environment for the first time - that's an incredible amount of new swimmers coming through, or some of our younger swimmers expanding into new events. Thank you to every parent and guardian who timed, officiated, marshalled, or stayed late to help pack down - and a special mention again to those who did much of the work in the lead up to the meet. Your support builds confidence and keeps our community strong.

What’s next

Training continues with the same energy as we head into the next block of meets. Coaches will share event feedback and targets with squads in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on your squad comms for photos, highlights, and key dates.

Well done to every swimmer who stepped onto the blocks. Whether you finished your first race, recorded a PB or broke a club record, you all helped make this years Club Champs one to remember.
