Swimming Keeps You Fit

Swimming is one of the best ways to get fit. To improve your fitness levels you need to swim for at least 45 minutes, three times each week. If you are serious about swimming, try to make this your minimum goal.

There are three types of fitness:

  1. Cardio-vascular fitness or stamina. The fitter you are, the better your heart and lungs work and the longer you can swim for.
  2. Muscle fitness. This means how many times you can make the same movement without the muscles getting too tired to do it again.
  3. Flexibility. This means the ability to move your arms or legs easily during exercise.

All of these things happen in swimming. So every time you go swimming you will be improving your all-round fitness: cardio-vascular (stamina), muscle fitness and flexibility.
