Swim 21

Swim 21 is an initiative brought in by the ASA. It is a planning tool, enabling clubs to help swimmers, coaches and administrators achieve their full potential.

It is centred around the needs of the swimmers – striving to provide them with the best possible environment. It is regarded as the back bone of the ASA’s development programme and the more a club puts into the process, the more it will get out of it.

The ASA has three key aims which are reflected in the swim 21 programme.

  • To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn to swim.
  • To provide pathways to ensure everyone can achieve their potential.
  • To win GOLD medals on the world stage.

What is Swim 21 Accreditation?

Swim 21 Accreditation is a ‘Quality mark’. It recognises nationally and regionally the clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for the benefit of their members.

Clubs work steadily towards the attainment of a series of outcomes, all of which are seen as essential if the right level of support is to be provided at each stage of an athlete’s development.

Winchester City Penguins have signed up to Swim 21, have completed the initial audit of activities and have submitted a detailed Action Plan to the ASA.

After many months of hard work the club has been accredited with Swim 21 (Skill Development level), which means that it has reached the tough standards laid down by the National Governing Body (asa) for swimming clubs. This was gained by many hours of very hard work, much behind the scenes by Julie Amies, Jan Warwick, Hilary Sharpe all supported by other members of the club. Work now needs to start to gain the next level of accreditation. Many congratulations to the Swim 21 Team.
